OMG ZOMBIES!!!

A friend of mine at my ‘day job’ got engaged a few months ago, and as she and her husband-to-be are kind of fun, quirky people, I jumped at the chance to do their engagement photos! And since I’d been dying to try a silly concept shoot, I thought they might be the ideal clients. First thing that came to mind, of course, was zombies! It was just a couple of weeks prior to Halloween, so makeup and all that was available. I had a pretty awesome storyboard laid out, and ideas in my head… Unfortunately, I dropped the ball on the zombie effects (Next time, I’m bringing in a friend who is a PRO at zombie makeup!)- but all in all, I think our little story came out pretty well! And we had a blast doing it!

The *Give Thanks* Thanksgiving Weekend Sale! (And a chance to WIN a $100 Gift certificate!)

First, I hope you and your family & friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Lots of you were probably up at the crack of dawn (or earlier!) shopping for the perfect gift for your loved ones. But if you’re anything like me, you’ve still got a few gifts that you need to get, and you don’t know where to start! I can help you with that!  This weekend ONLY, I will be offering gift certificates to Jinxed Studios Photography at a significant discount!  These certificates are good for session fees and/or prints. They are good for any date between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2013 (excluding major holidays, and dates previously booked.), and may be used toward ANY type of session!  (See pricing tab above for more info on sessions.)

So, what’s the catch, you ask? None, really… except that to get these savings, the certificate must be paid for on the day of the sale(s) to qualify.

To order, you may email me at JinxedStudios@gmail.com, or call or text 502-724-9998. (If you call, please be sure to leave a message!)  Please include the dollar amount of the certificate you would like to purchase in your email/message, and I will send you an invoice via PayPal!   You will receive a digital copy of your gift certificate when I receive payment, and  I will send you (or deliver to you) a nice hard copy, complete with envelope, ready to give to your loved one!  (Please allow up to 10 days to receive your hard copy.)

BONUS: Wanna WIN a $100 gift certificate? (You can keep it, or give it away!) Up to 5 entries for each person available! Click HERE to enter!

Some changes are coming…

Hi guys! Thanks for taking a moment out of your day to check out my new blog! I’m really excited about the new look, and it’s not the only change I’m making. In the next month, I’ll be re-evaluating my business plan, and making some changes that I feel will benefit not only myself, but my clients as well. Here are a few highlights:

1. As of the beginning of 2013, I will no longer be selling digital files ala carte. I know this sounds like a bad thing, and a lot of people are going to be upset- at first. (And trust me, this is a scary step for me to take, as I worry that some clients may pass me over because I have decided not to give you a disc of your photos. But hear me out!) But I’ve been doing a lot of research, and I’ve found some very compelling arguments for NOT offering up all of my digital files in a session.

For one thing, when you get a disc of your photos, or a digital download of them from my site, what do you do with them? If you’re anything like me, they go into the “I’ll do something with these soon” file, and you kind of forget about them. With my new system, I’ll be focusing more on getting you tangible, artful photos for your walls, albums, shelves… Because ultimately, isn’t that what we intend to do when we have our photos taken? I’ll be implementing a series of packages, along with incorporating some beautiful wearable photo items and other fantastic items! There will be opportunities to receive your photos framed and ready to hang in beautiful, artful frames that are color coordinated to your home. (You can click the link below to see just what I am talking about- not sure of the pricing just yet, but that will come soon!)

Essentially, what will change is that, instead of getting 100 pictures or so on a disc that you might not ever do ANYTHING with, you will be able to apply that money to prints and other items that you can share with family & friends, and cherish for many, many years! (And, as a bonus, I will give free digital copies of any prints you purchase for free, all ready to post wherever you like!)

I also plan to offer photo books, which will allow you to have more photos from your session all in one neat, pretty, professionally styled place! I’m in the process of hooking up with a company that I think will be an awesome fit to get those started!

2. Another thing I’ll be implementing is a more interactive approach to handling your photo session. I want you to have the perfect session, and I know that sometimes when we go into these things, we don’t really know what to expect, how to dress for the best look, how the ordering process will go, etc.  I plan to spend the rest of the year getting organized, and learning as much as I can, myself, to help make the process smooth for everyone! I’ll be conducting pre-session “interviews” where I will learn your expectations for your session, and answer any questions you may have. I’ll be offering “what to wear” advice, and build your session around what YOU want out of your photos.  Then, after your session, we will sit down together and I’ll walk you through the process of ordering your photos, books, etc, to make sure you get exactly what you need.  I really feel that this will make my sessions better, both for you, and for me!

3. Portrait events! I’ve recently attended an online workshop  given by Lori Nordstom (kind of one of the rock stars of the photography biz!), and one of her big things is portrait events. It’s really quite ingenious, and I can’t wait to start doing them! Essentially, you can “host” an event at your home, where I will come & set up, and shoot sessions with your friends and family over the course of the day. Each client that you bring to the party gets a special package at a great price, and you can earn $$ toward your sessions for each client you bring in! All of the shooting & ordering is done on-site, and we will make kind of a party of it! I have some great ideas on this one, guys! (Think door prizes, raffles, etc!)  : )  Can’t wait to get this organized and start these!!

Anyway, if you’re still with me after all my long-windedness, then hopefully you are as excited as I am about these changes! The new year is looking like a good one! Here’s to 2013!!

Checking out WordPress…

I’m trying to get better about keeping up with my blogging (I know, I’m sporadic!), and I’ve wondered for a while whether I should be using blogger or wordpress. I’ve seen lots of beautiful blogs on both platforms, and read many pros & cons lists. I’ve been using blogger for some time now, and I’ve decided to give wordpress a shot. So, here we are! Would love to know which blog you like better!  My other blog can be found here:  JinxedStudios.

Session Spotlight Volume 1: Hansel

I’ve decided that what this blog really needs is… well, content! :)  I’m terrible about updating regularly, and I’m trying to become a better blogger, as I also become a better photographer. To that end, I’ve decided to start featuring some of my favorite photos of each session that I do.

This session was done on April 1, 2012, at Bernheim Forest in Clermont, Ky near Bardstown. Bernheim is definitely a favorite location of mine- there are beautiful flower gardens, flowing fields, trees, lakes, wildlife… It is the absolute perfect backdrop for most any session. (And only about a 20 minute drive from my house. Well, 15, if you drive like me!) The clients are a friend of mine and his two children, and we really had a lot of fun! Here are a few of my favorite shots of the day.

I love this shot- the way the light shines around her hair, the bit of haze from the sun, the bokeh in the water….  So pretty!

I love this one- he didn’t want to do this pose with his sister, but it came out really cute!

My favorite of him…. Love the “oh geeze get the camera away from me” smile, and those big blue eyes!

So there are a few of my favorite shots from this session. Hope you enjoyed them! And if you’d like to book your own session, please check the contact page for more information. Have a great day!
